ONE Fight Night 40: “I never get too confident”

    Published on

Reigning ONE women’s strawweight Muay Thai world champion Stella Hemetsberger of Austria will never let her guard down despite already owning a victory over Jackie Buntan.

These two elite female strikers will run it back in the main event of ONE Fight Night 40 on February 13.

This time, it’s the Filipina-American’s ONE strawweight kickboxing world title that will be up for grabs inside Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium.

Hemetsberger launched herself to superstardom at ONE Fight Night 35 when she pulled off one of the biggest upsets in history by defeating Buntan after five grueling rounds.

‘Always Hungry’ scored two massive knockdowns in the opening frame and used that momentum to finish strong and come home with the unanimous decision victory.

By doing so, she denied Buntan’s bid for two-sport supremacy. Now, it’s Hemetsberger’s turn to try to capture two belts.

Speaking to ONE Championship ahead of this rematch, the RS-Gym and Phuket Fight Club representative made it clear she won’t be complacent against Buntan.

“Of course, beating Jackie gave me confidence. But I never get too confident in any position. This is a completely new fight for me. Jackie is a strong fighter, so I’m still very much aware that I have to put in the work to come out on top,” she said.

The golden opportunity on her hands isn’t lost on Stella Hemetsberger.

After becoming Austria’s first ONE world champion, the Salzburg native now has an opportunity to conquer a second sport.

    ‘Always Hungry’ told ONE Championship:

“I’m really excited to show my skills to the world and absolutely happy that I have another massive chance to show my abilities in another discipline.

    She continued:

“Above everything else, becoming a two-sport World Champion is my main motivation for this fight.”
